Young Vic Graphic Design Competition (Winning Entry)
Draft title treatment. My intent was to focus the design on the image itself, with the title treatment simple and only subtly suggesting the play's themes. The word 'Land' cracks, and there's a light clay texture covering the letters. The image has also been treated to appear more unformly lit, effectively drawing attention to the subject. I felt the design worked best in landscape (leaflets), but it can easily be adapted for portrait layout with some tweaks to image and text positioning. Please download PDF file here. Portrait option seen below.
Past work: EUTC's production of Bryony Lavery's 'Stockholm' As Stockholm is a highly physical piece, I wanted to convey the constant movement and psychological changes the two characters, Todd and Kali, undergo over the course of the play. The title is simplistic yet reflects the destructive imagery of the play (and poster artwork) as the words disappear and meet in a blur. Please download PDF here.
Past work: The EUTC's production of Arthur Miller's 'All My Sons'. The director provided the brief, choosing to focus publicity design on blueprints and airplanes - reflecting both the Kellers' tendency to make plans and those plans falling apart with the death of Larry, as well as, on a more literal level, broken plane parts that trigger the crisis of the play. Title treatment reflects the setting of the play (1940s), whilst the colour scheme focuses on the colours present in the American flag. The example shown here is the leaflet design. The back featured a paper airplane plan that allowed whoever picked up the leaflet to fold their own plane. The leaflets were then printed on 140 gsm paper to make them easy to fold.
